Reality of HSE in Telecom Pakistan.

Today's blog is not about any current affairs issue it’s all about my story.

So let’s start from the beginning. On 28 Dec 2020, we were in Sargodha near laliyan. Performing our installation activity on the first end and then moved to that site. There is one character in the telecom industry which is named cluster. He handled all the site's lock-ins and lockouts. He was with us on the first site. He told us about that site condition that there is one black snake who lives there since a long time ago. I told all that situation to my person of contact. He said “okay, you moved to that site and make a video and sent it to me,” I said “okay”. We moved to that site and saw the condition. It’s totally weird. A lot of grass plus bushes. By seeing all this, I realized that it’s not feasible for us to work here. I made a video and send it to the WhatsApp group in which vendor plus my company management is included.

After a few minutes, I got a response from one of the vendor engineer. He said “Make a safe zone and start the activity. It's so cold outside if the snake is there, definitely will be hiding somewhere”.Again my person of contact said that “is it feasible”. I said, “No. the most important thing who will be responsible if some mishap will happen”. Then there is a long silence in the group. After a lot of discussions, my Regional Manager wrote in the group that I will be responsible if some mishap will happen. Our team started the activity. we know that how we fixed the dish and mount it on the tower.Are lives being only important for those who are sitting in the offices? Do only those people have children? Do only those have parents? I assure all of you that if some mishap happened yesterday. Nobody accepts all that shit. Even our manager changes his statement. Shameful behavior from all of these culprits.

Nobody said that we will make it feasible for you. We will clean the site and then your team will start an activity. Wait, wait, wait. Let me tell you one more thing there is one word used in telecom named HSE. It’s the acronym of health and safety equipment. When we got the form of HSE on every site there is one column that mentioned site housekeeping. So where is the site housekeeping of that site?

That’s all the scenarios that I try my best to explain to all of you. Now the main thing that I want to share with all of you. All the higher managements of vendor and my company all think that the team on site makes a lame excuse and they don’t want to do work. No one from the higher management said that okay it’s not feasible for you, we will make it feasible for you by making it clean. Companies only see their profits and loss graph. It doesn’t matter to them where the hell you are? What the f**k you give to them? I know it’s just a matter of policy but things went weird.
