It was the project of three youngsters, Nigel Oakes, Alexander Nix, and Alexander Oakes. They all are Britains and have expertise in Global Election Management. One thing that we all have to notice before discussing the main issue. All the big companies like Google and Facebook provide their services at zero cost. However, at the same time, they all have their brand values. Right now, the brand value of Google is 323 billion. It's such a huge amount. Now question arises that how these big companies like Google and Facebook afford their expenditure while they are providing their services free of cost. So the answer is that these big companies sell the data of their users. They know the likes and dislikes of every person who is using their services. They sell all that information to different brands. This business is called Data Business or Data Analysis business.
Now, let's come to the main topic we were discussing about three youngsters. These all three youngsters are experts in Data Business and running a company named SCL in London. They worked on Election Management. They also give the data of voters to political parties and also told them about the trends of voters. In 2013, former British Conservative minister Jonathan Marland joined them. Afterward, Marland agreed two investors to invest in that business named Vincent Tchenguiz and Robert Mercer. They both invest in SCL. In England, a new company was established named Cambridge Analytica. That company made its offices in London, Newyork and Washington. In 2014, they started work on the Congress and Senate elections of America in 44 U.S. political races. They made fake accounts and steal the data of voters. They analyzed voters and note down their trends, and according to their trends, they showed them the pictures, posters, and films of their candidate. Just for an example, let's suppose a person named John and has an interest in german shepherd dog. Cambridge Analytica showed him only those pictures on his Facebook, Gmail, and WhatsApp account in which their candidate is with that dog. So by this, they started building interest of John in that candidate.
According to that technique, they got good results in that 44 races of the USA. It was a big success for Cambridge Analytica. In 2015, Ted Cruz of Texas jumped in the race for president. Ted Cruz took the services of Cambridge Analytica and at a rapid speed, he came to the top of the graph however, unfortunately, he didn't qualify. Donald Trump got that idea and took the services of Cambridge Analytica in 2015. The company made 0.27 million fake accounts. From these fake accounts, they got the data of 80.7 million voters and building their interest in Trump. As result, on 9 Nov 2016, Trump won the election. These results shocked everyone. Social media started a search on it that how Trump won the election.
So when the media started searching, Cambridge Analytica came to light and when it was investigated, evidence went to Facebook, so the investigation against Mark Zuckerberg was started. During the investigation, it was found out that Cambridge Analytica's deeds were not only limited to the United States, but it also managed the Brexit issue.
It is also learned that Cambridge Analytica has so far rigged 200 elections in 68 countries through social media and these countries include Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Colombia, Cyprus, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Romania, Italy, and Lithuania. Malta, the Czech Republic, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines, Brazil, India, and Pakistan are also included. The scandal came to light and Cambridge Analytica was banned. In the election of 2018, a well known political party of Pakistan also took the services of Cambridge Analytica. Now it's hard for Trump to accept his defeat because Cambridge Analytica was banned.
