Captain Charlie Plumb was an American Pilot. In 1960, he was posted in Vietnam. Charlie did 74 successful air missions and became the icon of the American Air force. After completing his 74 missions successfully, he applied for leave. Higher management accepted his leave application. Only five days before departure to home. One of his senior officers sent him to his last mission. He packed his luggage, attended his farewell meetings, and his family was waiting for him in America. By the rule of law, he was off on duty. But due to the pressure of his seniors, he accepted the request for the 75th operation. His plane F-4 Phantom was ready to take off when he steered his jet towards the runway. He saw a man who was running towards him and stopping him by raising both hands. Charlie stopped his plane, and that person said to him that there is no parachute in your jet. I brought a parachute for you. Charlie first ignored him, but on his regular request, he loaded it. As usual, he take off his plane. Hit the area of enemies, and returning to his base. From nowhere, a missile came and hit his plane and blasted it. He succeeded in opening the parachute at the right time. He landed safely in the forest. That was the area of enemies, Unfortunately they arrested him. He faced a lot of torture under their custody in the cell of size 8x8. For six years, he was under the control of communists. It was a difficult time for him. American Air force and his family member thought that he was dead. They also did his funeral ceremony. However, he came home safely after six years.
In an address to American businessmen, journalists, and intellectuals, he told them his whole story. In the end, He said, "I am still in search of that person who requested me to load a parachute. I want to say thanks to him because he saved my life." Charlie searched that parachute boy for 15 years. One day he was having dinner in a restaurant. A waiter came to him and asked his name; He said I am Charlie Plumb. The waiter said that I m your colleague in Vietnam. I handed over a parachute to you on your last flight. Charlie unconsciously dropped his fork and stood up. He hugs him tight and said to the waiter that I was searching for him for 15 years. I want to say Thanks to you. You saved my life. Likewise, in our daily life, a lot of people come and handover a parachute. And hats off to us; we don't bother to say thanks to them. Or forget them. That is a numb attitude from all of us. Every day we should wake up and thanks to God for his blessings. We should thank those who stand with us in our hard times. We should thanks to our parents for nurturing us. Thanks to everyone who put a part in our life. Just pick up your cell phone and call those who are still waiting for your call. And say Thank you!
